Their use also protects the cornea from unpleasant environmental factors.

What components are included in drops for dry eyes?

Most mucosal moisturizers contain four main components:

  • distilled water;
  • sodium salt of hyaluronic acid;
  • glycerol;
  • povidone.

Hyaluronic acid is known for its ability to bind and bind water molecules well. Thanks to this, a uniform hydrophilic film is formed on the surface of the eyes, providing uniform hydration. It prolongs the comfortable wearing of lenses, and the eyes remain reliably protected from the negative effects of external factors.

Glycerin has long been known in medicine as an inexpensive and excellent lubricating and softening agent. It is added to ointments, creams, drops designed to moisturize and relieve irritation of the skin or mucous membranes. In addition, it has antiseptic properties.

Povidone increases the viscosity of anti-dryness eye drops, which prolongs their long-term effect. In addition, it enhances hydration and instantly restores the normal condition of the eyes when wearing lenses.

In addition to the main components, pharmacologists add vitamins, microelements, synthetic or natural additives to the composition of drugs. Before purchasing a product, you must carefully study its composition. It may contain substances that are contraindicated for certain reasons, for example, during lactation or pregnancy.

Vitamin D

Early studies have shown that vitamin D protects against the development of dry eye syndrome and reduces inflammation of the mucous membranes of the eye. Research shows that vitamin D supplements can help with eye discomfort and fatigue, redness, and sensitivity to light.

Taking too much vitamin D can cause calcium to build up in the blood. This leads to poor appetite, nausea and vomiting, and in some cases, frequent urination, kidney problems and weakness.

The main causes of dry eye syndrome are: ■ intense visual stress (prolonged work at a computer, tablet, mobile phone; driving; reading in insufficient/night lighting); ■ exposure to the external environment (central heating, air conditioning, fluorescent lamps, bright sunlight, smoke, wind, etc.); ■ wearing all types of contact lenses; ■ various chronic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, asthma, thyroid diseases, glaucoma, etc.; ■ use of antibiotics, antimicrobial and vasoconstrictor drugs in the form of eye drops; ■ the use of medications that, as a side effect, have a negative effect on eye health: antidepressants, antihypertensive drugs, contraceptives and others; ■ surgery or mechanical damage to the eye; ■ aging (75% of the population over 65 years old suffers from dry eye syndrome); ■ hormonal changes in women during pregnancy, breastfeeding, menstruation or menopause. Due to these properties of hyaluronic acid, when Optinol® Express Moisturizing is instilled, a thin film is formed on the front surface of the cornea of the eye, protecting the eye from drying out, relieving the feeling of discomfort, dryness, fatigue, pain and irritation of the eyes. "Optinol®" Express moisturizing effectively moisturizes and restores the healthy condition of the eye surface - the cornea and conjunctiva.
