Synoptophore is an effective method for treating strabismus; when the device will help and when it won’t

Features of hardware treatment in children

Strabismus leads to dysfunction in most parts of the visual system; because of this, the pathology requires complex therapy using specialized equipment.

Orthoptic treatment is therapeutic methods using synoptic equipment and computer programs.

Treatment is carried out in courses from two to four times throughout the year, depending on the severity of the process. Therapeutic measures are aimed at eliminating amblyopia, which develops against the background of strabismus, as well as at restoring binocular vision, which involves teaching the patient to merge the image from the left and right eyes into a single visual image.

Modern equipment is distinguished by the ability to carry out treatment in a playful way, which makes it possible to get the maximum benefit from classes and begin treatment in children of the younger age category from two to three years old.

Terms of use

Diagnosis of strabismus is first carried out by a doctor. Then it is possible to treat strabismus at home if the technique of using synoptophore is well mastered.

During the session the patient wears glasses. A program is set that provides a variable effect of light stimuli. The most commonly used technique is merging - the patient is shown parts of a picture and asked to assemble a whole picture from them.

Sessions are carried out daily, the duration of the procedure is 30 minutes. A noticeable effect is detected after 20 sessions.

Innovative methods of hardware treatment of strabismus in children

In specialized ophthalmological clinics or inpatient departments of this profile, the latest technologies are used to treat strabismus in children of different ages, including: • the Synoptophore device (SINF 1); • multifunctional device Monobinoscope (MBS-02); • a device for restoring visual acuity Amblyokor; • application of a traveling magnetic field – the AMO-ATOS device with the Amblio-1 attachment; • software-computer therapy.

The average duration of one course is from 5 to 10-15 sessions, determined individually depending on the child’s age, concomitant pathologies and other characteristics. Hardware treatment is carried out under the supervision of a qualified medical specialist (doctor or nurse in an ophthalmology office).

Synoptophore apparatus

The ophthalmological device is widely used for diagnosing and treating strabismus, restoring binocular vision disorders, and treating visual fatigue resulting from weak fusion reserves.

Diagnostic measures make it possible to determine the angles of strabismus, the ability of the visual organ to binocular fusion, the nature of the retinal correspondence, and the state of fusion. Also, the Synoptophore SINF-1 device determines the presence of a functional scotoma or nonfovial fusion.

How does the device work?

Synoptophore SINF-1 is an apparatus containing several movable tubes, at one end of which there are lenses and eyepieces, at the other a special socket, equipped with illumination, for installing objects that are being observed. As a rule, paired drawings are used for children in the form of objects.

During the procedure, the illumination of the socket with pictures is alternately turned on and off, which forces each eye to focus in turn, creating an even load on the visual organ. These exercises allow you to examine each eye, as well as determine the degree of strabismus. Diagnostic results are the main data used in developing the most effective treatment regimen in a particular case.

The therapy carried out using the Sinoptofor SINF-1 apparatus is aimed at strengthening the muscles involved in turning the eyes, improving their coordination and normalizing the performance of the sensory systems of the brain, which are responsible for the full perception of the full image of objects by the visual organ.

The synoptophore is one of the leading devices that allows for complete diagnosis and treatment of strabismus. But despite its versatility, scientists are creating newer technologies that have made it possible to improve this device by adding Heidinger brushes to the system. This phenomenon is designed to improve central vision. This made it possible to increase the accuracy of diagnostic data and expand the functionality of the device.

Characteristics of the laser device Monobinoscope

Treatment of strabismus using the MBS-02 Monobinoscope, a new generation device, involves the effect of laser radiation on the inner lining of the eyeball. The device is used for diagnostic purposes, to restore functional disorders of the visual system, as well as to prevent amblyopia, nystagmus and other pathologies that develop against the background of strabismus or independently of it.

The procedure does not cause discomfort to the child, is completely safe and consists of the following: • treatment using the method of sequential images - stimulation of the central depression located in the center of the macula of the retina of the eyeball using a photo flash; • exposure to various parts of the retina of the eye organ with a semiconductor laser (wavelength 635 nm); • observation of light spots, specks, called speckles, which are delimited by dark areas of the picture (speckle structure); • exposure to a defocused laser beam on the cornea of the visual organ (without or with the use of medications).

Amblyocor device: video – computer auto-training

Amblyocor is a specialized computer, exercises on which activate the mechanisms of central regulation of vision, thereby increasing the acuity of visual function. Conducted video-computer auto-trainings (VCA) stimulate the parts of the central nervous system responsible for the changes occurring in the binocular optical system. The main goal of therapy is to restore the natural capabilities of brain structures, which consist in visualizing the complete image of an object distorted by the inner shell of the visual organ. Exercises with this device normalize the acuity of visual function not only with strabismus, but also with other ophthalmological pathologies, in cases of ineffectiveness of other methods of therapy.

How is the treatment carried out?

During the procedure, a special cap with electrodes is placed on the child’s head, and a film (cartoon) is played on the monitor screen, at the child’s request. During viewing, the device’s computer receives signals transmitted from the patient’s brain (encephalogram). The system instantly processes the incoming data and, if dysfunctions in the functioning of the visual system are detected, the computer monitor darkens and the film production stops. At this moment, vision is restored due to the patient’s efforts, as a result, the picture on the screen resumes. Amblyocor is a relatively new device, treatment with which is carried out in a playful way and is safe for the child. The device stimulates the necessary brain centers to form the correct reflex connections to restore visual disorders.

Magnetotherapy: use of the latest AMO-ATOS equipment with the “AMBLIO-1” attachment

The device is prescribed for the treatment of pathological processes in the visual apparatus, which often develop with strabismus: to restore clarity of vision and normalize the functions of the optic nerve. The technique is also used to treat inflammatory processes of the cornea, eliminate swelling, hemorrhages and disorders of the vascular system of the organ of vision. The therapeutic effect is achieved by influencing the central nervous system and PNS with a running magnetic field. As a result, the functioning of the circulatory system of the organ of vision improves, the vascular walls are strengthened, their elasticity increases, swelling and inflammation are reduced, and metabolism improves. In addition, when completing the full course prescribed by the attending physician, an increase in the immune system is noted.

How is the treatment carried out?

During the procedure, the child does not feel any discomfort or pain; it is possible to conduct the session in a sitting or lying position. Treatment is carried out by applying applicators that conduct radiation from a traveling magnetic field directly onto the patient’s closed eyelids. In some cases, it is combined with drug therapy; in this case, eye drops are administered before starting the procedure.

The AMO-ATOS device with the Amblio-1 attachment is a device similar to a telescope, with pulse sources built inside.

Treatment of strabismus in children using a specialized computer method

Software-computer therapy is a mandatory component of the treatment of most types of strabismus in children. The main goal of the technique is to activate the receptors of the inner shell of the visual organ with the help of color impulses, which contributes to improved perception of the visualized picture, trains the accommodation reserve of the eye, and develops the combined functioning of the eyes. The use of this treatment is effective for amblyopia, impaired visual acuity, and strabismus.

Software-computer treatment is carried out in a game form. The child sits in front of the computer monitor, the specialist at the ophthalmology office opens the necessary program: 1. Shooting gallery, chase - bright elements merge on the screen, during the procedure both eyes are included in the work. 2. EUE - used to activate the ability to clearly visualize objects with both eyes. During the lesson, paired pictures appear on the monitor, the course of which is the separation and convergence of the optical axis. 3. Contour – special glasses with red-blue lenses are provided: the image on the monitor is visible with one eye incomplete, while the child completes the necessary contours, visible with the other eye. 4. RELAX - used to improve the refraction of the visual system. Various color and spatial images are used to relax the visual organ. 5. Blade-2 - the program allows for simultaneous diagnosis and treatment of strabismus, improving visual acuity. 6. Chibis - the program allows you to stabilize the functioning of the visual system by restoring visual impulses transmitted from the retina to the patient’s brain.

To treat strabismus, our clinic offers its patients a whole range of modern devices and techniques that guarantee the best results in the shortest possible time.

Occlusion in convergent strabismus. What it is?

To treat strabismus, children are often prescribed to wear an occluder. These are special ophthalmic products that are used to seal a diseased eye or eyeglass lens. This treatment is used for strabismus and amblyopia - “lazy eye”. The occluder, like glasses, must be selected individually. The features of the pathology and the anatomy of the child’s head must be taken into account. Occluders are disposable and reusable, plain and colored.

The main task of the occluder is to “turn off” the healthy eye so that the patient begins to work more actively. The duration of wearing the occluder depends on the degree of strabismus in the child. When the pathology begins to develop, ophthalmologists recommend wearing the bandage for several hours. If the condition worsens - during the day. In severe cases, treatment can continue for a year.

occlusion

The occlusion method makes it possible to achieve increased vigilance and the formation of neural connections between the eyes and the brain. This method is the most common when it is necessary to correct convergent strabismus in children. It was first used in 1829 and is used successfully to correct strabismus today. The popularity of this method is due to the ease of its use, accessibility to many people and the effectiveness of treatment.

Patient reviews

Synoptophore therapy has proven itself well among doctors and patients. Reviews about this procedure are almost always positive.

“My child’s strabismus was discovered in the second year of life. We were prescribed glasses almost immediately, but the baby wore them reluctantly. When he turned 4 years old, the doctor offered us therapeutic procedures using the synoptophore. The child enjoyed going to the clinic for procedures. Then we purchased a home device. After six months, the baby’s vision improved, and the external defect almost disappeared.”
