SOS – varicose veins! Causes, symptoms, treatment of varicose veins

Every Tuesday, AiF Health explains what signs may indicate that it’s time for you to see a doctor. This week we tell you what varicose veins are, how they are diagnosed, treated, and what to do to keep your legs healthy.

Part of the population responsibly ignores this problem - and lives to develop trophic ulcers. And some are interested in treatment and prevention, so that, with little effort, they can ensure healthy legs, ready for running, swimming, mountain climbing and other joys of life. It is for the second category of citizens that we have prepared a large-scale popular narrative about varicose veins and its treatment.

Let's start with a short anatomical excursion: as you know, blood moves through our body in two circles - large and small. The heart initiates this movement: it contracts rhythmically, pushing blood through the aortas, arteries, vessels... From top to bottom, to the legs, the blood moves with enthusiasm - thanks to gravity. But, having reached her feet, she needs to turn around and go back through the veins - up. And this is already problematic.

To make this process possible, the veins have valves that allow blood to flow in only one direction - up. The scheme of what is happening is approximately this: the heart pushes blood through the vessels, it rises up and is fixed by the valve at a given level until the next heartbeat.

In addition, not only the heart, but also the leg muscles help move blood upward. If the muscles regularly contract and relax (for example, providing their owner with an energetic walk over rough terrain), then the vessels undergo compression and relaxation - and the blood is vigorously pushed upward, from valve to valve. This happens in a healthy body without varicose veins in the legs.

If the vein has expanded, then the valves that ensure normal blood flow from the legs stop closing. A gap forms between them and the outflow of blood slows down. The worse the blood circulation, the more the vein stretches. The circle is closed!

Salon procedures to eliminate veins under the eyes

  1. Microfatgrafting and lipofilling.
The esthetician will take some of your fatty tissue and inject it into the hollows under your eyes. In addition, the doctor can use the drug Restylane, which is a brother of hyaluronic acid. The technologies are almost identical, the only thing is that microfat grafting uses thin needles, as a result of which the shape of fat cells is preserved during selection. As a result of simple manipulations, lipid tissue takes root much better and does not dissolve so quickly, which allows you to maintain a long-lasting effect between procedures.
  2. Mesotherapy.
An esthete-cosmetologist will select a therapeutic cocktail for you, which includes hyaluronic acid, and then give an injection. The drug acts at the intracellular level, so the effect appears after 1 procedure. Mesotherapy narrows veins and eliminates varicose veins. To maintain the results, all you have to do is stick to a balanced diet, sleep soundly and engage in moderate physical activity.
  3. Photo- and electrocoagulation, laser and microcurrent therapy.
All 4 methods stimulate blood circulation, normalize metabolic processes, and improve lymph flow. In addition, the procedures make the skin firm, elastic, give the face a healthy appearance and a natural pink tint. The epidermis is saturated with moisture, and the cells are saturated with active components, the veins narrow and the bags under the eyes disappear.
  4. Chemical or alpha hydroxy acid peel.
The procedures are performed exclusively on thin and delicate areas of the skin. They remove the stratum corneum of the epidermis due to the content of active microparticles. The technology reveals the next layer of skin, which is healthier and fully hydrated. The face looks much fresher, but the effect does not last long.

How to remove veins under the eyes with pharmaceutical preparations

  1. Venotonic.
The product is designed specifically for the treatment of varicose veins under the eyes. Venotonic is available in gel form; it is applied to the protruding veins and rubbed in thoroughly. The product narrows even those vessels that are hidden for a certain period of time (3-7 hours). Active components restore firmness and elasticity of tissues, preventing further development of varicose veins. Give preference to natural remedies that contain all kinds of medicinal herbs. You will pay 150 rubles more, but you will prevent allergies and premature skin aging.
  2. Retinol.
Serums and creams based on retinol can be purchased at the pharmacy; their cost varies from 400 to 1000 rubles. By comparison, in professional cosmetic stores, similar products from foreign brands will cost 2,500-3,000 rubles. Retinol promotes accelerated collagen production, due to which the skin is saturated with active minerals and oxygen, which helps normalize blood flow in the area under the eyes. The cream is applied once a day in the evenings and left overnight. You should not expect immediate results; the effect is achieved after 3 months of daily use.

Disguise with cosmetics

In addition to remedies for relieving the symptom of dilated veins, it is recommended to wear makeup daily to hide the resulting symptom. To do this, use a corrective pencil or foundation. They are selected depending on skin tone. A small amount of the product is applied to the brush, where the epidermis is similar in color to the face. The product is applied in a thin layer, then shaded with a brush or fingers.

To prevent the skin from being oily after applying the products, it must first be cleansed. To do this, wash with tonic and gels.

If a man or woman has visible veins under their eyes, this is immediately visible to the people around them. To eliminate these symptoms, it is recommended to use complex treatment. To do this, visit a cosmetologist, a dermatologist, and use pharmaceutical products at home. It is important to use traditional methods that help not only hide the symptom, but also help increase the firmness and elasticity of the skin.

Capillaries are visible on the eyelids. What to do?

Girls, whose capillaries are visible on the upper eyelid ? How do you combat this? What procedures need to be done and is it possible to remove this horror? Can you wipe with vinegar?

- Wipe your brains with vinegar. Your eyelids are normal, that's how it should be.

- What? This is true for almost everyone. Cover it with foundation.

— Maybe together with the eyelids. Good luck!

- Dear girls, why are you worrying about nonsense? And you find absolutely crazy reasons for complexes.

- Fuck. Author, are you stupid?

— Urine therapy helps, they say.

- And I do not have. You just have thin eyelid skin . No way to remove it.

— I found a problem. Better implant your brains.

“I don’t see a problem here at all.” Go through the forest, author!

- Vinegar forever... You made my day!

- Why waste time and just wipe your eyelids with vinegar? Get it right out of the bottle, just to be sure.

- Wipe with sulfuric acid!

— Hydrochloric acid removes everything completely.

- People, brek, she is so bad, if she has such problems, that she could really wipe her eyelids with acid. This brainless creature does not know that capillaries on the eyelids are normal.

- Don't blink, whatever!

“This can happen with thin skin, but I don’t think anything needs to be done here.” If you use foundation or eye shadow, then there is no problem here, these capillaries are no longer visible under a layer of cosmetics.

- How evil everyone here is, it’s terrible. Since she asked, it means she cares, no need to spray poison.

- Well, capillaries are visible on the eyelids, so what? This is generally the norm. Everyone has this to a greater or lesser extent. Don't drink or smoke - they will be less noticeable.

— Practice has proven that the imperative method is more effective.

- Why fight this?

- My sister has this, she’s 13, it’s nature and there’s nothing you can do about it.

— Capillaries appear on the eyelids of an adult if the skin is thin. You are at risk of early skin aging.

- It’s the same for me. I cover it with foundation and shadows. Where will I put them if nature decided to do this to me? Yes, and it’s nonsense to worry about something like that. You should also ask about the veins in your arms. As for vinegar, it's tough. You put it right in the eye. I have never read more crazy bullshit

Why did the veins pop out under my eyes?

Do you constantly sit at the computer or “web surf” using a smartphone or smoke? Then the blueness under the eyes and blood vessels can become your “decoration”.

If varicose veins under the eyes appeared not so long ago , the reasons may be the following:

  • you were in the scorching sun for a long time or, on the contrary, you were caught outside in severe frost;
  • began to try wiping the eyelids with ice cubes - for such a procedure, please note, special preparation is needed, and without it, small streaks of blood and dilated veins appear;
  • sudden weight loss - your subcutaneous fat has become a thinner layer, which is why the veins have appeared;
  • heredity - sometimes people genetically have skin that is too sensitive, light and thin, and even in adolescence blood vessels can appear.

Sometimes varicose veins under the eyes indicate body conditions and various diseases :

  • liver,
  • gallbladder,
  • circulatory system,
  • increased blood pressure,
  • iron deficiency,
  • chronic dehydration of your body.

Heredity plus...

Doctors believe that the main reason for the development of varicose veins is hereditary. If your parents or grandparents have varicose veins, then this problem could be passed on to you. And it doesn’t matter whether your ancestors had enlarged veins on the legs or in other places: the disease can be localized in the groin, in the anus (yes, these are hemorrhoids) - if there is a gene that provides a weak venous wall, then sooner or later it can prove yourself.

Amiran Demurov, phlebologist surgeon, ultrasound diagnostics doctor at the Phlebology Center:

There are several tools available to diagnose varicose veins in the legs. The simplest of them is a Doppler study: it gives a definite answer whether there are varicose veins or not. It can be done if there is a primary suspicion of varicose veins. The gold standard in diagnosing varicose veins is ultrasound duplex scanning (USDS). It combines the capabilities of ultrasound and Doppler examination. Using ultrasound, you can find out the speed of blood flow, the diameter of the vein, assess the functioning of the valves and the condition of the vascular walls. Accordingly, if, based on the results of a medical examination, there is no doubt about varicose veins, you can do without Doppler and immediately go for an ultrasound scan.

But even the weakest venous wall may not stretch if there is no reason for it. The onset and speed of development of the disease depend on the adverse factors to which you expose your legs.

These include a sedentary lifestyle, the need to sit for 6–8 hours a day (at a computer, in a car, etc.), increased physical activity (the need to lift and carry heavy objects), wearing high heels, a reluctance to engage with one’s own body, and although I would like to visit a phlebologist occasionally.

How to make protruding veins less noticeable?

Today you can find many gel glasses on sale. These are masks that have special slits for the eyes. According to manufacturers, such products are designed to relieve fatigue and tone thin skin. Each such mask is sold with instructions, and if you act as indicated there, the manufacturers promise that the veins will become less visible. Well, you have to try it.

Varicose veins under the eyes are sometimes treated with traditional methods . Let's say there are those who practice compresses made from decoctions of chamomile, sage, grated potato tubers, sour cream and finely chopped parsley. Such procedures are usually carried out in such a way that you then need to wash them off with warm water and then colder water. But without sharp temperature contrasts! And after that, be sure to use eye cream.

a few recipes for you if veins have appeared under the eyes and you decide to try only homemade and simple solutions for now.

  • Take a dessert spoon of sage, pour one cup of boiling water, leave for about ten minutes, then strain the broth. Now we wet the cotton pads and apply them to the eyes for just a couple of minutes.
  • Sometimes beauties try parsley compress. Finely chop fresh herbs, mix with sour cream and apply to the eyes for about a quarter of an hour. Then you just need to wash everything off with warm water and use your usual eye cream.
  • You can try cutting the potatoes boiled in their jackets and putting the round ones over your eyes (by the way, you don’t need to salt them during the cooking process), for about 15 minutes or maybe a little less.

Traditional methods

To increase skin elasticity, cosmetologists at home recommend applying ice to the skin under the eyelids. To increase its effectiveness, the following herbal ingredients can be added to ice:

  • herbs from dill, aloe, chamomile, parsley, rosemary, sage;
  • blueberries, rowan berries;
  • orange, banana, peach.

If you make ice from herbs, it is recommended to brew them first so that the active ingredients dissolve better in the liquid. After the water has cooled, the broth is filtered and poured into ice molds. It is recommended to apply ice in the morning and evening. Cosmetologists advise taking a contrast shower. The method is useful for the whole body, as it tones the blood vessels.

Additionally, you can wash your face with contrasting water every morning and evening. Turn on the hot liquid first, then the cold liquid. It is possible to use herbal infusions instead of running water. For these purposes, oak bark, wormwood, chamomile, string, and birch are used.

Many patients are allergic to herbal preparations. It is recommended to first consult with a dermatologist, allergist, or cosmetologist to avoid side effects from the folk remedies used.

Varicose veins under the eyes: masking them

The podglazami.ru project understands perfectly well that sometimes all these procedures are like some kind of “poultice for the dead.” But the veins remain visible, and what to do when today you need to look dazzling? On sale you can see so-called venotonic gels . They restore elasticity and firmness of the skin. If you apply them to protruding veins, then for 5-6 hours (literally like in the fairy tale about Cinderella), they will disappear.

More expensive venotonics based on natural extracts are preferable. This way you will be saved from premature aging of your skin, as well as unexpected allergic reactions.

Radical - is it worth it?

Sometimes many people resort to mesotherapy to get rid of varicose veins in the sensitive skin of the eyelids. According to cosmetologists, mesotherapy sessions are designed to replenish the missing reserves of hyaluronic acid in the skin cells around your eyes. In addition, vitamins and minerals, extracts, etc. are introduced with hyaluronic acid. We must immediately remind you that the procedure is quite expensive. And almost always very painful. And also a long rehabilitation period with all the “charms”: swelling of the face. Of course, time passes, the skin under the eyes tightens, and the veins are not so visible. But they don't go anywhere. And six months later they become just as obvious.

If a vein has come out under the eye, not very large, about 3 mm, then cosmetologists can recommend you laser photocoagulation and thermocoagulation . These sessions involve the action of a special type of laser on the veins. The blood that is in the varicose vessels attracts the laser beam and heats up, and the walls of the vessels themselves stick together. Unwanted veins are removed.

During such a session, you may feel a slight tingling and even burning sensation, but it is not long-term. It’s worth warning right away that doing this for the veins under the eyes is not always possible. Sometimes such vessels perform extremely important functions and cannot be completely eliminated.

So, it’s up to you to decide, but sometimes the right makeup becomes much more effective, because blue veins under the eyes are not so easy to remove forever.

Conservative treatment

The non-surgical treatment program includes diet, compression and drug therapy.

Diet

Dietary measures are mandatory, since excess weight is one of the risk factors for the development of varicose veins. Nutrition should be calorie-compensated (energy consumption should not exceed energy needs that correlate with the nature of the load or lack thereof). In addition, you will have to exclude hot seasonings, pepper, marinades, excess salt, smoked foods from the menu, and reduce the consumption of fried foods. It is also recommended not to drink alcohol.

The menu should contain a sufficient amount of vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C, dishes rich in fiber, wholemeal bread, and seafood. Frequent (at least 4 times a day) fractional meals are indicated. As for the trend that was fashionable just a few years ago to limit yourself to any animal fats, you should forget about it. Of course, exorbitant numbers of triglycerides and cholesterol are not the point. But in reasonable quantities, cholesterol helps to patch up the vascular wall, reducing the risks of secondary thrombotic complications and sudden ruptures of veins.

Quitting smoking

Smoking is the most harmful habit for varicose veins. If you choose between drinking a moderate amount of alcohol and smoking, then the first one can still be tolerated. But the second one will have to be categorically excluded. Not only do tars clog blood vessels, but carbon dioxide spasms them, increasing the risk of blood clots and secondary complications (heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolism). Those who have varicose veins (or are predisposed to them), take hormonal medications (including oral contraceptives) and still manage to smoke should be especially careful.

Compression underwear (stockings, knee socks, tights)

This is a good option for the prevention and treatment of early stages of varicose veins, as they have different parameters of pressure on soft tissues, model options and color solutions. You need to put on underwear in the morning, without getting out of bed, while the venous system is not yet overflowing with blood. There is one problem with this method - prohibitive price tags on the territory of the Russian Federation, limiting the purchase of anti-varicose knitwear by the general public. As a rule, people who start using underwear are not those for whom it can still help at the pre-illness stage, but people with severe forms of varicose veins, often complicated by thrombotic processes, for whom surgical treatment is indicated, and compression hosiery as a secondary prevention.
